1) Where do you find your Moments of Positivity?
As a first generation college student and physician, I find my “moments of positivity” from mentorship and pipeline work. I volunteer at ScholarMatch helping high school students to prepare for college. I also founded www.melanininmedicine.org to highlight and promote URM diversity in healthcare, science, and public health.
2) How do you Claim your Moment?
I “claim my moment” by surrounding myself with loved ones who keep me grounded, such as my fiancée, family, and friends. I also take it upon myself to decolonize my mind and medical training by reading books about social justice, anti-racism, feminism, and anything that expands my perspective of the world. I highly recommend the book “Medical Apartheid” to anyone in the healthcare field.
